Woodland Winter Solstice

December 20, 2019 @ 4:30 pm - December 22, 2019 @ 6:30 pm

£10 – £12
celebrating winter solstice with national trust

Celebrate Midwinter’s Eve with us in the woods. Families with children of all ages are welcome to join us at our Forest School circle hidden in the ancient woodland on the National Trust’s Erddig estate for an early evening session of solstice celebration around the campfire. We will start with a lantern-lit walk across the meadow and into the woods where our crackling campfire will give us a warm and welcome light at the darkest time of the year. Our last two years were amazing, and this year promises to be a very special and magical event with music, food and good company.

We have 3 evening sessions available: Fri 20th Dec, Sat 21st Dec and Sun 22nd Dec. Sessions start at 4.30pm and end at 6.30pm.

UPDATE: Sat and Sun are now SOLD OUT! We only have tickets for Friday night left.

Watch our video of last year’s magical event…

This year we will be adding a storytelling session into the evening programme and we will also be giving out prizes for the best woodland animal masks made and worn by the children.

  • Lantern walk from the Hall to the woodland fire circle
  • Hot spiced apple cider (non-alcoholic)
  • Storytelling
  • Wishing Tree, Glow Worm Hunt & Night Line Trail – games for the kids to enjoy
  • Roasted chestnuts
  • Animal Mask Competition
  • Sing along with seasonal songs – James will bring his mandolin

“Winter Solstice, like Summer Solstice, is a moment of pause between two cycles, a moment of transition that can be held and savoured, a doorway, an opening, a place on the edge, when we can stop our busy lives and take a moment to experience this edge between these two great cycles of the year.” Glennie Kindred

Share a cup of our hot spiced apple cider (non-alcoholic) and other tasty treats, including chestnuts roasted over the campfire. Sing-along to seasonal songs with live music provided by James’ mandolin. There will also be a few night-time games for the kids in the woods. Light a candle of your own and make a wish for the coming year.

Adults tickets £12 each, Child tickets £10 each. Under two’s come for FREE. Children of all ages are welcome.

Be sure to wrap up well with appropriate clothing as old Jack Frost will be out and about.

“We can look back on our journey since Summer Solstice, to acknowledge what we have completed in this cycle, what we have experienced and what wisdom we have gained. It is also a moment to look forward, to name the new seeds and intentions we wish to take into the next cycle.” Glennie Kindred

We have 3 evening sessions available; Friday 20th Dec, Saturday 21st Dec and Sunday 22nd Dec. Sessions start at 4.30pm and end at 6.30pm. Get in touch if you’d like to know more. Phone James on 07876 794 098 or email us. Advance booking is essential. Tickets are available just below on this page.

A note about winter weather… if we do get heavy rain on the evening of the event then we will most likely have to cancel as our woodland shelter does not have enough cover to keep everyone dry and cosy. So, keep your fingers crossed for a cold but dry night. In the event of us cancelling the event, customers will of course get a full refund.
