£10 – £50A whole day experience taking time out from the hustle and bustle of the ‘real world’ to relax into the spirit of nature through your own creativity. No artistic experience or skills are needed, as the basics of tapestry weaving are easy to pick up with support from our experienced tutor, Irene Evison of Nearly Wild Weaving.
The first step will be to take inspiration from the colours, shapes and textures in the woods: the wrinkles and colour variations of tree bark, the curves of a leaf, the fuzziness of moss, the edges of the tree line against the sky. You will then spend the rest of the day weaving your own small tapestry, with Irene’s guidance and support. What you choose to weave will be up to you, depending on where you feel your nature connection.
You will be introduced to basic weaving skills including weaving shapes and lines, and introducing new colours or types of yarn. This will equip you to create your own tapestry which you will be able to take home with you at the end of the day, a unique memory of an experience of time well spent.
Sit around the campfire, enjoy a hot brew from the kettle. You’ll be weaving outdoors (although we have shelter available if we’re unlucky with the weather), steeped in the atmosphere of the woods around you. Your course is all set against the backdrop of mixed woodlands, wetlands and open meadows of Park In The Past, with 120 acres of wild space to explore.
This course is open to both adults and adults accompanying a child. We advise a minimum age of 12 years old, but if you feel that your child would get a lot out of the experience then please do contact us in advance to discuss whether this course would be right for them.

Your Tutor: Irene Evison
Your tutor for the day is tapestry weaving artist Irene Evison of Nearly Wild Weaving. “One of my favourite things is to sit outdoors, weaving the view. Later on, when I look at the tapestry that I made that day, I remember the dappling sunshine, the feel of the breeze, the sense of contentment I enjoyed as I wove. The basics of weaving, passing yarn in and out of the warp strings, is a fundamentally calming activity, even better when you’re sitting outdoors, drinking in the sights, sounds and smells of nature.”
Inspired by the natural world, one of Irene’s favourite things is sitting somewhere outdoors ‘weaving the view’, distilling key elements of what she sees to create a tapestry in just a few hours. “I love inspiring other people to be creative through the medium of tapestry weaving, often through participatory outdoor weaving experiences, but also through workshops and community projects.”
