SUMMARY:Identifying Trees in Summer
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” el_class=”innerpage-rowgraphic”][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text el_class=”inner-pagetitle”] \nWhen you’re out walking\, have you ever wondered\, “which tree is that?” \nDo you know your rowan from your ash? Have no fear\, because on this one-day course we’ll show you how to identify a host of tree species by looking at leaves\, bark\, the shape of the tree and other clues. We’ll also look at the different uses that trees have\, their place in the ecosystem and even a bit of woodland folklore. You will also take away your very own Tree Name Trail fold out chart\, which is perfect for continuing your learning and practising tree ID after the course is done. \nJoin James\, who will be your tutor for the day. He has worked for many years in and around trees from managing the largest Community Woodland in Wales (300 acres\, no less) to introducing children to the wonder of woods with his Forest School work. \nAt lunchtime\, share a hot campfire brew together at the woodland fire circle\, sheltered under the canopy of native trees. You’l learn about the restorative woodland management that has been happening here for the past 10 years and how wildlife is thriving in this special nature reserve. \nAberduna Nature Reserve is a fantastic place to learn about trees\, offering stunning views across the Alyn valley to Moel Famau and the Clwydian Range. The entire site is underlain by limestone\, which strongly influences the habitats found on the reserve: woodland with glades\, scrub\, bracken\, calcareous grassland\, areas of exposed limestone and small ponds. There’s plenty to get stuck into. \nCOVID-19 UPDATE: Please note this course will be going ahead with social distancing in place and with a risk assessment appropriate to Covid-19.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″] [vc_column_text] \nEvent details\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”white-text”]Date: July 25\, 2020 \nTime: 10:00 am – 3:30 pm \nVenue: Aberduna Nature Reserve \nCost: £40[/vc_column_text]Book now [/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”14473″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” el_class=”row-graphic-white” css=”.vc_custom_1573054760131{background-image: url(https://woodlandclassroom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/background-texture.jpg?id=12328) !important;background-position: center !important;background-repeat: no-repeat !important;background-size: cover !important;}”][vc_column][vc_row_inner content_placement=”middle”][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”14475″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” el_class=”wd-circle-image”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_column_text] \nTree Name Trail Included!\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Everyone attending this course also gets a FREE Tree Name Trail fold out chart produced by the Field Studies Council. This chart features the common broadleaved and conifer trees found in Great Britain and Ireland. Simple yes/no questions will quickly guide you to the colour illustrations for each tree. Text on the reverse side covers the features of each tree\, including leaf shape\, flowers\, bark\, fruits and seeds\, habitat\, origin and commercial use.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner content_placement=”middle”][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_column_text] \nYour Tutor: James Kendall\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]James is the Head Bushcraft Instructor at Woodland Classroom\, having worked in outdoor education & conservation for over 10 years. James’ approach to teaching steers students toward fostering a deeper connection with nature through understanding the landscape around us; “Bushcraft skills are an effective way to do this as we learn how to make use of natural materials and live lightly with the land\, whilst also connecting with our own ancient past by seeing the land through the eyes of our ancestors.” \nIn 2017 James received the Bushcraft Competency Certificate awarded through the Institute for Outdoor Learning after 2 years of teaching experience and practical study. He is also a member of the IOL Bushcraft Professional Practise Group. The group aims to promote best practice in the growing industry of bushcraft activity providers.[/vc_column_text]Find Out More[/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”14193″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” el_class=”wd-circle-image”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” css=”.vc_custom_1573143170656{background-color: #6c7d4d !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nSkills you will learn\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”cream-text”] \nOver the course of the programme you will learn a range of skills\, including… \n[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nTree & Plant identification [/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nReading the Landscape [/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nNature Connection [/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nHedgerow Foraging [/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”book-now”][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nBook now\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nThis course costs £40 per person and is open to adult learners aged 16 years and over.
