SUMMARY:Family Bushcraft Adventure
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” el_class=”innerpage-rowgraphic”][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text] \nHave a Really Wild Adventure\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”inner-pagetitle”] \nGive your family the gift of adventure with a whole day of real outdoor skills for parents and kids. This one-day experience is perfect for the family that wants to inject a little more ‘wild’ into their lives. Want to introduce your kids to the secrets of making fire\, building shelters and the joys of campfire cooking? Whether you’re planning a wilder family camping trip or simply want to gain confidence in wilderness-living skills then this is for you. \nShow me a child who doesn’t love the idea of building dens out in the woods\, lighting their own campfire and getting to grips with sharp tools. You will learn how to do these things effectively\, safely and responsibly\, whilst having a fun and rewarding day out in the woods together. \nWe’re told as children not to play with fire\, but if we discover it’s secrets and learn how to be safe when lighting fires outdoors then it can be our best friend. It warms us\, cooks our food\, lights our way and hypnotises us whilst campfire tales are told. We believe that kids should know not only know how to light fires\, but also learn to manage their risk and be responsible for their own safety and have an awareness of their impact on the environment. If children never get to “play” with fire then they’re missing out on a whole lot of what a real childhood should be about. \nTest your mettle in our axe throwing range and weave your own cordage using the plants around you. All these skills are presented in a fun and engaging way that will appeal to both adults and children. You’ll go away feeling confident and with the right tools to be able to have wilderness adventures of your own with your kids. Our goal is for all children to get the chance to develop a love of nature and the outdoors. \n“Such a great day\, we’re going to be headed out to Snowdonia later this summer for our own family adventure and this day has given us a load of ideas. The kids won’t stop talking about what they want to cook on the campfire :-)”Joanne Hall \nAll this will take place against the backdrop of mixed woodland at Bryntysilio Outdoor Centre\, just outside of the popular tourist town of Llangollen.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””] \n\nCreate your perfect woodland getaway\, using tarps\, hammocks & natural materials\nDevelop sharp tool skills; safe techniques for knife\, axe & saw\nPlay fun games that introduce your kids to key bushcraft skills\nIdentify and gather a range of natural tinders & building materials\, right from the forest\nCraft & create with “woodland lego” to make useful camp gadgets\nThrow axes in our target range (height restrictions apply)\nChoose the best wild campsite; gain awareness of hazards to look out for\nLight fires that will stay lit and keep you toasty\nCook up a storm\, with tasty treats over the campfire\nMake your own string from nettles; craft a bracelet or necklace\nDare you take the “Rain-Proof Challenge” with your finished shelter?\nLeave no trace of your camp in the wilderness\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″] [vc_column_text] \nEvent details\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”white-text”]Date: Wed 6th August 2025 \nTime: 10am – 4pm \nVenue: Bryntysilio Outdoor Centre\, Llangollen \nCost: £85[/vc_column_text]Book now [/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”31321″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” el_class=”row-graphic-white” css=”.vc_custom_1573054760131{background-image: url(https://woodlandclassroom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/background-texture.jpg?id=12328) !important;background-position: center !important;background-repeat: no-repeat !important;background-size: cover !important;}”][vc_column][vc_row_inner content_placement=”middle”][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_column_text] \nYour Tutor: James Kendall\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]James is the Head Bushcraft Instructor at Woodland Classroom\, having worked in outdoor education & conservation for over 10 years. From here we will take a short walk out into the woods to learn how to view the natural world through the eyes of our ancestors. \nA good portion of our first day will be spent building natural shelters ready for you to sleep out in. You will learn how to build shelters that keep the weather out and give you a comfortable night’s sleep. \nNext we will gather around our new woodland homes to practise safe sharp tool use with knives. You will learn a selection of simple but effective knife grips. Your children will carve their own butter knife\, ready for use with tomorrow’s breakfast. You will also be shown how to use a folding saw safely and effectively. Lastly\, it’s time to get to grips with the axe as you’ll be splitting firewood ready for the evening cook-out. \nKids will make their own flaming torches ready to light up our shelters after dark \nOf course\, we make time for play too as we lead you through fun games which also teach key bushcraft skills such as tracking and tree identification. \nOn the Saturday evening we will prepare and enjoy a freshly cooked campfire meal on the campfire\, along with some sweet treats and hot chocolate too. The rest of the night is yours to spend together. \nThe following morning will be focused on firelighting skills. You will gain skills using modern firesteels to produce quality sparks which will build to your own campfire. You’ll be exploring the woods on the hunt for natural tinders\, kindling and firewood\, including how find them even in wet conditions. If we have time\, we will look at some alternative methods for lighting fires. \nWe will then turn our attention to making natural cordage from nettles. Children can turn their string into a bracelet to take home or make use of it in camp. \nAt lunchtime on Sunday we come together as a group to prepare another campfire meal in our traditional dutch ovens. You’ll enjoy good food and good company around the campfire as families have done throughout history. \nNext you will unlock the secrets of fire by friction by learning to use the bow drill\, an ancient form of firelighting. Finally you will be be shown how to minimise your trace and lessen your impact on the land when bushcrafting. \nFinally you’ll take the Woodland Lego challenge as you’re tasked with creating useful campsite gadgets from a selection of sticks. Children often come up with something new and surprising. \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_single_image image=”29291″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” css=”.vc_custom_1573143170656{background-color: #6c7d4d !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nSkills you will learn\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”cream-text”] \nOver the course of the programme you will learn a range of skills\, including… \n[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nFirelighting Skills [/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nFire By Friction [/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nSharp tool use [/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nAncestral Skills [/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nCampfire snacks [/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nBushcraft for families [/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nTree & Plant identification [/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nShelter building [/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nDutch Oven [/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nNatural Cordage [/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nNature Connection [/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]\n\n	\nGreenwood Crafts [/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”book-now”][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nBook now\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nThe course costs £190 per family (maximum of 2 adults & 1 child aged 6 up). SUMMARY:Family Bushcraft Adventure
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” el_class=”innerpage-rowgraphic”][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text] \nHave a Really Wild Adventure\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”inner-pagetitle”] \nThis May half term week\, give your family the gift of adventure with a whole day of real outdoor skills for parents and kids. This one-day experience is perfect for the family that wants to inject a little more ‘wild’ into their lives.Want to introduce your kids to the secrets of making fire\, building shelters and the joys of campfire cooking. Whether you’re planning a family camping trip or simply want to gain confidence in wilderness-living skills then this is for you. \nTest your mettle in our axe throwing range and weave your own cord using the plants around you. All the above skills will be presented in a fun and engaging way that will appeal to both adults and children. The kids won’t stop talking about what they want to cook on the campfire :-)”Joanne Hall \nAll this will take place against the backdrop of mixed woodland\, wetland and open meadows of Park In The Past\, with 120 acres of wild space to explore and the site of the UK’s only full-size reconstructed Roman fort.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \n\nCreate your perfect woodland getaway\, using tarps\, hammocks & natural materials\nDevelop sharp tool skills; safe techniques for knife\, axe & saw\nPlay fun games that introduce your kids to key bushcraft skills\nIdentify and gather a range of natural tinders & building materials\, right from the forest\nCraft & create with “woodland lego” to make useful camp gadgets\nThrow axes in our target range (height restrictions apply)\nChoose the best wild campsite; gain awareness of hazards to look out for\nLight fires that will stay lit and keep you toasty\nCook up a storm\, with tasty treats over the campfire\nMake your own string from nettles; craft a bracelet or necklace\nDare you take the “Rain-Proof Challenge” with your finished shelter?\nLeave no trace of your camp in the wilderness\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″] [vc_column_text] \nEvent details\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”white-text”]Date: Thurs 30th May 2024 \nTime: 10am – 4pm \nVenue: Park In The Past \nCost: £85[/vc_column_text]Book now [/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”31321″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” el_class=”row-graphic-white” css=”.vc_custom_1573054760131{background-image: url(https://woodlandclassroom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/background-texture.jpg?id=12328) !important;background-position: center !important;background-repeat: no-repeat !important;background-size: cover !important;}”][vc_column][vc_row_inner content_placement=”middle”][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_column_text] \nYour Tutor: James Kendall\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]James is the Head Bushcraft Instructor at Woodland Classroom\, having worked in outdoor education & conservation for over 10 years. This one-day course is designed for an adult to accompany their child(ren) whilst you learn together. It’s perfect for parents or grandparents wanting introduce their kids to the secrets of making fire\, building shelters and the joys of bushcraft. Whether you’re planning a family camping trip or simply want to gain confidence in wilderness-living skills then this course is for you. You will even receive your very own fire-steel set to take away. \nIf it’s raining\, no problem. James will show you how to find dry firewood in the forest and start a campfire\, even on a wet day. All the above skills will be presented in a fun and engaging way that will appeal to both adults and children. You’ll go away feeling confident and with the right tools to be able to have wilderness adventures of your own with your kids. \nWe believe that today’s children need to see that the outdoors is not a scary\, uninviting place but a place that they can (with the right skills) make a perfectly warm and dry home away from home\, enjoying everything nature has to offer. Our goal is for all children to get the chance to develop a love of nature and the outdoors. \nAll this will take place against the backdrop of the National Trust’s beautiful Chirk Castle estate with ancient woodland\, parkland and footpath network. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \n\nCraft your own real leather drawstring pouch; to keep your firelighting kit safe and dry\nCreate your perfect woodland getaway\, using all natural materials\nDevelop sharp tool skills; safe techniques for knife\, axe & saw\nFind\, identify and gather a range of natural tinders & building materials\, right from the forest\nChoose the best wild campsite; awareness of hazards\, habitats and weather\nLight fires that will stay lit… no need for damp matches ever again\nCook traditional damper bread over your own campfire\nMake your own string from nettles\nWitness the ancient art of Fire by Friction\, and have a go for yourself\nDare you take the “Rain-Proof Challenge” with your finished shelter?\nLeave no trace of your camp in the wilderness\nUnderstand the law relating to wild camping & firelighting\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″] [vc_column_text] \nEvent details\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”white-text”]Date: July 23\, 2022 \nTime: 09:30 am – 4:30 pm \nVenue: Chirk Castle \nCost: £85[/vc_column_text]Book now [/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”25102″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” el_class=”row-graphic-white” css=”.vc_custom_1573054760131{background-image: url(https://woodlandclassroom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/background-texture.jpg?id=12328) !important;background-position: center !important;background-repeat: no-repeat !important;background-size: cover !important;}”][vc_column][vc_row_inner content_placement=”middle”][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_column_text] \nYour Tutor: James Kendall\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]James is the Head Bushcraft Instructor at Woodland Classroom\, having worked in outdoor education & conservation for over 10 years. It’s perfect for parents or grandparents wanting introduce their kids to the secrets of making fire and the joys of bushcraft. Whether you’re planning a family camping trip or simply want to gain confidence in firelighting skills then this course is for you. You will even receive your very own fire-steel set to take away. \nIf it’s raining\, no problem. James will show you how to find dry firewood in the forest and start a campfire\, even on a wet day. All the above skills will be presented in a fun and engaging way that will appeal to both adults and children. You’ll go away feeling confident and with the right tools to be able to have campfire adventures of your own with your kids. \nAll this will take place against the backdrop of the National Trust’s beautiful Chirk Castle estate with ancient woodland\, deer parkland and footpath network. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \n\nCraft your own real leather drawstring pouch; to keep your firelighting kit safe and dry\nFind\, identify and gather a range of natural tinders for firelighting\, right from the forest\nChoose the best fire site; awareness of hazards\, habitats and shelter\nLight fires that will stay lit… no need for damp matches ever again\nCook traditional damper bread over your own campfire\nNatural remedies that will soothe a light burn\nWitness the ancient art of Fire by Friction\, and have a go for yourself\nDiscover a range of man-made tinders available for firelighting\nLeave no trace of your campfire in the wilderness\nUnderstand the law relating to lighting fires in the wild\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″] [vc_column_text] \nEvent details\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”white-text”]Date: May 16\, 2020 \nTime: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm \nVenue: Chirk Castle \nCost: £55[/vc_column_text]Book now [/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”14492″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” el_class=”row-graphic-white” css=”.vc_custom_1573054760131{background-image: url(https://woodlandclassroom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/background-texture.jpg?id=12328) !important;background-position: center !important;background-repeat: no-repeat !important;background-size: cover !important;}”][vc_column][vc_row_inner content_placement=”middle”][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_column_text] \nYour Tutor: James Kendall\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]James is the Head Bushcraft Instructor at Woodland Classroom\, having worked in outdoor education & conservation for over 10 years. James’ approach to teaching steers students toward fostering a deeper connection with nature through understanding the landscape around us; “Bushcraft skills are an effective way to do this as we learn how to make use of natural materials and live lightly with the land\, whilst also connecting with our own ancient past by seeing the land through the eyes of our ancestors.” \nIn 2017 James received the Bushcraft Competency Certificate awarded through the Institute for Outdoor Learning after 2 years of teaching experience and practical study. He is also a member of the IOL Bushcraft Professional Practise Group. The group aims to promote best practice in the growing industry of bushcraft activity providers.[/vc_column_text]Find Out More[/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”14193″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” el_class=”wd-circle-image”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner content_placement=”middle”][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”14491″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” el_class=”wd-circle-image”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_column_text] \nCraft Your Own Firelighting Kit\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Each adult & child will receive a brand new fire-steel set\, maya stick and petroleum jelly.
