Discover the joys of foraging without having to leave your back yard.

You don’t have to go rooting around in hedgerows and woodlands to find surprisingly tasty wild foods, you need only look as far as out your own back door. Adele Nozedar, author of The Garden Forager and Lea & James Kendall creators of Your Wild Food Year will guide you through the extraordinary uses and mind-blowing possibilities of foraging from your garden.

You will learn not only which garden plants can provide you with wild food but also those that give us medicine and other useful things. You will also learn about how letting in the wild edges to your garden can allow surprising and often tasty things to happen. We will share with you the common garden weeds which are tasty and safe to eat. Learn about their nutritional value and how to incorporate them into your meals. You’ll also get practical tips on how to grow and maintain a garden that is rich in edible plants.

In addition to all this, we’ll share some of our favourite recipes that you can make using the wild food you’ll find in your garden. By the end of this workshop, you’ll have a deeper appreciation for the natural world around you, a better understanding of the benefits of eating wild food, and some practical skills and knowledge that you can use to start your own garden foraging journey.

Foraging is one of the fastest growing nature-related pastimes in the UK. With this workshop you will learn to enjoy finding, harvesting and cooking with wild foods that our common garden plants provide.

Your Tutors: Lea & James Kendall & Adele Nozedar

James Kendall is the Head Bushcraft Instructor at Woodland Classroom, having worked in outdoor education & conservation for over 10 years. James’ approach to teaching steers students toward fostering a deeper connection with nature through understanding the landscape around us; “Bushcraft skills are an effective way to do this as we learn how to make use of natural materials and live lightly with the land, whilst also connecting with our own ancient past by seeing the land through the eyes of our ancestors.”

Lea Kendall is a qualified Counsellor and Mindfulness in a Woodland Setting practitioner. She is a firm believer in the power of nature to be therapeutic for everyone. Lea is an active forager, passionate about how we can use common plants for both food and medicine. She enjoys making her own tinctures and medicinal remedies for treating common ailments.

Adele Nozedar is an author, food writer, and forager. Adele runs Brecon Beacons Foraging hosting wild food walks in South Wales. She is the author of several popular books on the subject including, The Garden Forager, The Hedgerow Handbook, Foraging for Kids and The Tree Forager. We’re excited to have Adele as a guest speaker on this workshop with us, sharing her knowledge, enthusiasm and humour.

“One of the best bits about writing books, for me, is when people ask me to talk about them. I love doing this and try to make my talks as entertaining as possible.”
